Hunger
Current State of Affairs in North Africa:
The current state of affairs in North Africa is that severe hunger and food insecurity is almost something in the past. Currently 1 in 4 people are still hungry in Africa and it still has some of the highest people suffering from malnourishment in the world. There are twice as many African countries facing major food shortages presently than ever since 1990.

The World Food Programme is helping to deal with the food crisis in Northern Africa by providing almost $40 million dollars in emergency food to more than one million people in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. This food will go to people who are hungry in those areas because of all the refugees fleeing across the borders.

In a recent article called, Drought raises fears that Africa could go to bed hungry this year, but it's not all about food, the things that were talked about as recently as July of 2015 were the effects of climate change on the food production in Africa. There is supposed to be a huge reduction in the amount of grain that is produced that will reduce an important crop for food. This is because of the unpredictable rains and long dry spells.

- Food Insecurity affects Northern Africa because you have people fleeing Libya because of the violence in their countries leaving farms and agriculture unattended and so food will be lacking. They are fleeing from Libya to Egypt and Tunisia and that is causing food shortages because there are too many mouths to feed.
- Because most of North Africa is Muslim the diet consists of:
- Grains, olive oil, onions, garlic and spices like cumin, caraway, clove, and cinnamon. Breads are served with each meal and breakfast usually includes porridge.
- To maintain healthy weights, it is important that crops such as barley, wheat and staples needed for stews and soups are grown as they are filler foods. http://www.diet.com/g/african-diet
